Land Ho! Qaqortoq, Greenland

After 6 days at sea and the endless fog for days, seeing our first glimpse other Greenland coastline through the mist of the fog almost felt like a mirage. It was really exciting because we could finally see land!

”Land Ho!” We all cheered. And bit by bit the icebergs hugging the shoreline started to appear as we approached the shore.

Qaqortoq is the fourth largest town in Greenland and on our approach I couldn’t help but think of it like the arctic Cinque Terre with its colorful houses scattered through the hills.

Right now we are waiting to clear customs, which is a little tricky on a Saturday, but Graeme worked his magic with a local and someone called the police for us. If we get our clearance, we’ll probably only stay here the night before exploring further on the coast. We hear there is a boat accessible only hot spring just 40 miles away…but for now..we might hit up the karaoke bar with the locals tonight!

  1. You made it through the foggy sea. Have fun singing tonight on dry land

    1. We ended up listen to a live greenlandic band and dancing the night away! It was really wonderful.
