Quick update from the top of Vancouver Island

We are jumping off to Haida Gwaii today with a quick stop at Bull Harbour for beachcombing. We will be out of service for a bit, so I wanted to share a few photos from the trip so far:

Shrimping in Friday Harbor
10 knots sailing across the Strait of Juan de Fuca
Happy crew at the helm
Talia under the dodger
New sails, new dinghy, new dodger. Good old boat.

So far so good on the travel. Boat is sailing more miles than we motor, which I am pleasantly surprised by. Even upwind across the Straits we sailed the whole way. Fishing has been spotty but the shrimping has been good. Hooray for the new Harken electric pot puller we installed!

Best part of the trip so far has been the people. Wonderful music fest on the dock at Silva Bay with old friends and new ones. Bob and Deb played the strings, kids banged on drums and pots and winches, and the harbor rang with music and laughter. Thank you all for the good time and wonderful welcome to Canada!

  5. Thanks for the comments, everyone! We’re still in Haida Gwaii, just got back into cell range. Now entering the town of Sandspit. All is well except a few boat issues, which we are dealing with. Cruising is doing boatwork in exotic places after all. 😉 Fun to have cell service again!

  6. Glad to hear everything’s going beautifully! We’ll be thinking of you in the Haida Gwaii – I kayaked there 20 years ago and loved it!
