Captain’s Report – Day 6 – Off Icy Bay

[Sorry, posting this a day late. We’re scrambling to find a new depth transducer for Dogbark. It’s always something!]

Position as of 1000Pacific
58.51’N, 142’10’W
Course: 285
Speed: 7.6 knots
Wind: 3-5 from NE
Sea: 0-2’ from SW, rippled
Sky: mostly cloudy, clearing, some squalls to SW

We are motoring along, weather has been as forecast, meaning not much wind from NE, SE, and SW. assuming the NW will fill in eventually and we will have had it from all points on the compass.

Currently about 65 miles S of Icy Bay.  Some of my favorite coastline is out of sight on the horizon to the north, with Mt. St Elias, the Malaspina glacier and Mount Logan among other sights that we can’t quite see because we cut the corner a little bit. We are abeam of waypoint AP06 (10 miles shoreward of us).

Log entries are pretty similar, whales, the odd porpoise, a plastic bottle that may have made its way over from Asia, or Kodiak. Had Huevos Rancheros for breakfast, that’s probably our highlight. Should enter PWS tomorrow around this time, and then we will be looking for an anchorage. So one more update from me, and then we will sign off until next time.

One time I sailed through PWS with friends, had a lot of fun but didn’t see much because of the fog. I hope you post some amazing photos!

  2. Your reports are so interesting to read. I feel like sailing again. Thanks! Would you mind if I add your reports to my web directory abpit boats?
