We’re in Iceberg Country Now

Now that we were out of the first ice flows, we’re back to the icebergs! These are the actual icebergs I have been imagining. They are bigger and brighter and more awe-inspiring than ever. Graeme tells us that when he sent Victor the Predictor photos, he replied with, “You’re in iceberg country now. You haven’t seen nothing yet. Wait until you get into Baffin Bay.”

Victor also tells us that we are in the lead for his self devised 2024 NW Passage completion race. For any Puget Sound Racers, think of it like the Three Buoy Fiasco. There is a start and a finish, and multiple courses you can take. No matter which one you take, whoever finishes first wins. While we may have started behind the fleet this year, we’re not particularly in this to win that race, we’ve actually moved at an accelerated schedule because we wanted to take advantage of the favorable winds and ice conditions, but now we’re looking forward to slowing down a bit. Hopefully!

This one had to be a couple hundred feet tall! Notice the little opening at the bottom you can see though!

We’re on our way to spend a few days exploring Arctic Bay, and I’m hoping I can finally get my arctic cold plunge in! The water temperature is rising…today we reached the most northern point of our journey, we peaked out at 73° 53′ N! Celebrate!

We’ve been absolutely floored with our first views of Baffin Island, which remind me of what it might be like if the grand canyon was filled with saltwater, glaciers, and icebergs. With the contour lines of the cliffs changing as we move along the island, it’s hard not to stare at it all day.

We are loving the dance song recommendations people are sending us. Keeping the dance party going on deck! Special thanks to Jasper who sent me my new theme song, “Following the Sun” by Super-Hi/ Neeka this morning.

I have a daily practice of having a dance party with my tea in the mornings. The watches have thrown things a bit off this trip but proof we’re still having fun out here!

Any pop loving adventurer like me might appreciate these lyrics too:

Maybe I don’t wanna know
The way home
Taking on a journey
I’ve got places to go
Wanna chase a miracle?
It’s possible
You just gotta open the door

Darling, it’s cold out there
Don’t fear the road
Just come along with me
You’re not alone out there
Let’s write a song, make up the melody

If you’re looking for me baby
You know you can find me
Following the sun
Somewhere running up my heartbeat
I don’t look behind me
Following the sun

Following the sun

Come and give your love away
Don’t play it safe
I’ma let you fall but I won’t let you break
Wanna chase a sunset
Are you ready yet?
We won’t get this chance every day

Darling, it’s cold out there
Don’t fear the road
Just come along with me
You’re not alone out there
Let’s write a song, make up the melody

If you’re looking for me baby
You know you can find me
Following the sun
Somewhere running up my heartbeat
I don’t look behind me
Following the sun

Following the sun

Following the sun

You can lean on…
You can lean on me
You can lean on…
You can lean on me

If you’re looking for me baby
You know you can find me
Following the sun
Somewhere running up my heartbeat
I don’t look behind me

Following the sun

Following the sun

Following the sun

You can lean on…
You can lean on me
You can lean on…
You can lean on me
