After getting to Sitka we had some spare time, well really just a chance for Mom and Dad to kick us off the boat in a kind way to get some work done. So we got to spend a lot of time with our grandparents. To our pleasure. We had a lot of fun.
We went to the fudge, flowers and chocolate shop, we went through Sitka National Totem Park, and lots more. But my favorite by far was the Raptor Center.
The Raptor Center is a wonderful rescue facility. It was interesting because their were a lot of bald eagles. And owls. But only one raven and ravens are like Alaska’s crows. We had a great time, we saw so many bald eagles, I was three feet away at one point they and their massive brown body with the white head I felt like a mouse in a trap. One stared at me with beating eyes. I understand why their nest is 8 feet wide, they are big birds. Not just the eagles but the owls, some were as small as my fist while some were as big as a sink. My favorite owl was the one with big bushy eye brows that were turned down like an angry person it reminded me of an angry bird.
My visit also made me reflect in such a small town like Sitka, there is a lot of wildlife not just the ravens and bald eagles you see 30 times a day there are owls and deer and bears and much more. (Though it’s pretty hard to get through Sitka without seeing signs and trash cans that say warning bears!) I loved the Raptor center it was a great place I think you should go there if you are ever visiting Sitka, Alaska.
Great posting Savai….from an old geezer.
