“If you lost your appetite today I think I have it.” -Jenny Sugar
That’s how I felt, Hungry and ready for something interesting to happen. And finally we sat down in the cockpit and ate Ikura. If you don’t know what this is it’s a Japanese dish of salmon eggs. I took my first bite and it tasted wonderful! But when I took my second bite I heard a loud “Hey guys.” I looked up and saw it was our friends Pat and Sue.
“There are muskox 3 fourths a mile up the road, wanna come?” Sue said.
As we were rushing to eat lunch, gather cameras, and get bundled up, John and Becca were at the coffee shop getting work done.
Finally we were ready to go see some muskox. We hopped in the truck and drove down the road and soon enough there were muskox across the road not 25 ft away. At first they looked like bison but they were muskox, maybe 10 of them on the side of the road. Their horns are different. We stopped, got out of the truck, and took some photos with John’s camera and my phone. The photos I have here are from my phone. The photo on the left is from the web of a muskox horns. Don’t they remind you of a 80`s hairdo? After all the photos we drove back home and went on with our big adventure…
Nice article Savai. I’m glad the muskox didn’t charge you ! And, although I was quite adorable in the 80’s, I NEVER wore a hairdo like these muskox horns. You must be thinking of Nini !
Oh my gosh! Did you get close enough to this guy to see if he smells? He seems like he might be someone who lives at the stinky end of the spectrum. Thanks for writing, Savai!
It feels like I’m in on this journey! Thanks for the updates Savai!
Thanks for following, Jordan and Jolie! Great to hear from you!
Sounds exciting and crazy did you name one bob for me?😜
The sea ice at Pt. Barrow has opened, are you ready to advance behind a Chuckchi Sea low passage and stage at Elson Lagoon for the next leg to Tuktoyaktuk?
Those things are huge! Love the comparison of the skull to 80’s hair – ha!
That must have been really cool to see Muskox savai!
