So many issues are top of mind right now: the pandemic, the economy, racial injustice, the climate crisis. It’s going to take many people, from many different spheres of influence, to lead us to health, prosperity, justice, and equilibrium. But who’s going to lead us, and how?
Last month’s Women Who Sail newsletter on leadership introduced women who are stepping up to lead in all sorts of ways. Take sailor and polar explorer Lungi Mchunu, the first African female to sail to the Arctic. Her story about learning to lead with a soft voice really spoke to me and tied in nicely to Dear Skipper Jenn’s advice to “My Skipper is a Yeller.” (Hint: There are other ways to lead besides yelling.)
I also enjoyed reading about Elizabeth Marami, a professional mariner born in Kenya who founded the Against the Tide Foundation, and Anne Bryant’s piece about leading through content creation. Good stuff!
As book curator, my own offering to the newsletter was Readings on Leadership. You don’t have to be a woman (or a sailor) to read my reviews on all these great books. Enjoy!
Thanks to your book reviews, I’ve got my holiday reading queued up. And Anne Bryant provided just the needed kick for me to go back to unfinished writing. I’ll be re-visiting as I work my way through the unclicked links in your intro. Much appreciated!
